About Black mountain

On the southwest tip of the island, a little beyond the ancient settlement of Akrotiri and just short of faros, the lighthouse that has guided ships since 1892, lies the secluded beach of Akrotiri. It faces away from the caldera and towards the deep blue expanse of open sea to the south. This open view, the clear waters, the imposing black mountain and the absolute calmness make this beach a truly memorable experience. Add to this the distinctive rock formation, which some liken to the profile of an Indian, while others see it the face of Spyridon Marinatos, the archaeologist who discovered the prehistoric site of Akrotiri.
